Basic information:
Antimony, metallic element, elemental symbol Sb, atomic number 51, silvery shiny, hard and brittle metal (often made into rods, blocks, powders, etc.). It has a scaly crystal structure. Gradually losing luster in humid air, intense heat burns the oxide of white antimony. Soluble in aqua regia, soluble in concentrated sulfuric acid. The relative density is 6.68, the melting point is 630℃, the boiling point is 1635℃, the atomic radius is 1.28a, and the electronegativity is 2.2.

Application:
1. Fire retardant. The main use of antimony is its oxide antimony trioxide in the manufacture of refractory materials. It is almost always used with halide flame retardants except for polymer flame retardants containing halogens. The formation of antimony halide by antimony trioxide can slow down combustion, which is the reason for its flame retardant effect.
2. Alloy. Antimony can be combined with lead to form versatile alloys whose hardness and mechanical strength are improved. In most applications where lead is used, antimony is added in varying quantities to make the alloy. In lead-acid batteries, the additive changes electrode properties and reduces the formation of hydrogen as a by-product during discharge.
3. Other Applications. Almost all other antimony is used in the following three applications: first as a stabilizer and catalyst for the production of polyethylene terephthalate and second as a clarifier for the removal of microscopic bubbles from glass, primarily in the manufacture of television screens; The third application is pigment antimony is increasingly used in the semiconductor industry, mainly as a dopant in ultra-high conductivity N-type silicon wafers, which are used in the production of diode infrared detectors and Hall effect elements.
