Low alloy steel refers to alloy steel with a total alloying element of less than 5%. Low alloy steel is relative to carbon steel, is on the basis of carbon steel, in order to improve the performance of steel, and intention to add one or several alloy elements in steel. When the amount of alloy added exceeds the general content of the normal production method of carbon steel, the steel is called alloy steel.

Low alloy steel materials feature oxides, carbides, silicides, refractories, metals and organic powders such as silicon carbide, silicon dioxide, alumina, and titanium dioxide with pure metal coatings for increased strength, use of wear, corrosion resistance, surface particle size in micron order and current density with stirring 20-200 mA/cm2. The addition of a uniformly dispersed second phase to the metal matrix provides new engineering properties. In the process of codeposition, small metal particles added to the plating solution are deposited or embedded into the metal matrix at the same time during the electrolysis process. The performance of the composite coating depends on the nature, distribution and size of the particle binding to the metal matrix. The development of many powder metallurgy alloy systems provides an alternative to composite coating technology, thereby increasing the chances of addressing corrosion and wear failures.
Low alloy steel has been widely used in the manufacture of construction machinery, ships, Bridges, high-rise buildings, boilers and pressure vessels, electric power, and various vehicles.
With the continuous development of powder metallurgy industry, low alloy steel powder is also more and more widely used.
