Cerium oxide is an inorganic substance, chemical formula CeO2, light yellow or yellowish brown auxiliary powder. Density 7.13g/cm3, melting point 2397℃, insoluble in water and alkali, slightly soluble in acid. At 2000℃ and 15MPa pressure, cerium oxide can be reduced by hydrogen to obtain cerium trioxide. When the temperature is free at 2000℃ and the pressure is free at 5MPa pressure, cerium oxide is yellowish, reddish, and pink. Its performance is to do polishing material, catalyst, catalyst carrier (auxiliary), ultraviolet absorber, fuel cell electrolyte, automobile exhaust absorber, electronic ceramics and so on.
Functions and Applications
1. Used As oxidizing agent, catalysts for organic reactions. Steel analysis for rare earth metal standard sample. REDOX titration analysis. Decolorized glass. Glass enamel sunscreen. Heat resistant alloy.
2. It is also used to prevent polymers from darkening in sunlight and to suppress discoloration of television glass.
3. It is applied to optical components to improve performance. High purity Ceria are also used in phosphors and dopant to crystal.
